If the color green was illegal

(For Homeschool Kids Write assignment #57.)

If the color green was not allowed, many things would be destroyed: trees, grass, seaweed, flowers, emeralds, the color teal, and many more things.

If the color green was not allowed, I’d be very sad, because even though green is not my favorite color, it can be very pretty some times.

Anything made of wood would be very expensive, so would paper.

Plus, the only way to save St. Patrick’s day would be to change the color of it. For instance, instead of green maybe blue, or red.

Also the rainbow would be smaller, because it would lose a color, though I suppose we could add some color, like pink for instance, or some thing…..

So, I hope that if anyone was thinking about making the color green illegal, they will decide against it.

My birthday party

Since one of my guests was a neighbor, we figured that he would be the first one to arrive. We were wrong; instead the other boy came first.

Now, Mom was going to make a lime punch, but she forgot. Also I didn’t know what game to play, so at first we played a game called Operation. (Perhaps you’ve heard of it; it’s a board game.)

Then we did our craft of making pretend dragon eggs; there were some pretty neat designs. For the color (we were using spray paint) (my sister was helping us, of course), I picked a textured gold and a red. The red went on before the gold was dry, making a textured red. I, my Mom, and maybe my sister — and one to all of the guests, too — thought it was the best.

After that, we drew mustaches and other funny stuff on some Sunday comics (old ones, of course). When we finished there, we played Conjecture. You take play-doh, and you make shapes (depending on the word on the card that is on top of the pile) out of it, and then your teammate has to guess what it is. Whoever’s teammate guessed first gets the point. The shaper and the guessers take turns at the different jobs.

Next we ate supper (which was pizza), followed by presents and cake.

Sadly, after that it was time for all but one to go home (the last one was spending the night). Goodbye, guests.

All in all, though, I had fun (and I hope my guests did, too).

New everything!

Happy new year! Today is the start of a new year. and there are tons of new things to talk about. For instance: soon we’ll have a new president.

But the best thing about it for me is….. (more…)

Merry Christmas

Wow! It’s Christmas all ready!

December is zooming by. and soon I’ll be a year older! Time goes fast when under pressure of making sure you have gotten presents for every one, and I have a large family.

I hope your having a good time on this day. And every day for that matter!

Oh, and I’m purring for joy at what I got. And I hope you are too!

Birth: October compared to the whole year

My sister, Niner, was at a hospital website, comparing whether there were more boys or girls born in a year. (She was doing a paper for her statistics class.) And in the Octobers of 2007 and 2008 both, more girl babies were born than boy babies, but overall, each year, more boys were born.

This does not mean that there are more boys than girls in the world. Though, it might mean that there are more boys in our town. Although it sure doesn’t seem that way.

Maybe I’ll do some studying myself. If I do, I’ll tell you my results. If you do some studying of your own, then please tell me your results in a comment to this post.

Gas prices soar: Here’s how to solve that

You’re driving along and you realize that your car is low on gas, so you stop in at the first gas station that you see. Gas around $4 per gallon. Ten years ago you (or you parents) could have bought gas for a little under $1.50.

This is the problem that a lot of places in the U.S.A. are having. I think it’s time for somebody to get us out of this. Gas is money, and money is not gas. I’ll explain to you why this is: Gas costs money (too much if you ask me), but you can’t use money as gas.

We should make cars that run on cheap, useless, unliked things—something like school books. (Nasty little buggers they are.)

Busy schedule

I think of spring and fall as my favorite seasons. But fall is a really busy time for us, because there is co-op, and now every first Monday of the month is 4-H. Not to mention school, blogging, chores, and soon I’m going to start piano lessons on Wednesdays.(Do you have this busy a schedule?)

So fall, as you can see, is definitely my second, almost third or fourth, favorite season.

Tons of girls

Have you ever heard There are twice as many girls as boys? Well to me it seems true, because in my co-op and our last church there were less boys than girls. For instance there are three girls zero boys in my Sewing class (Small class, huh?), and only two boys with several girls in Drama. At our old church there were usually only two or three boys in a lake of girls. I’d almost wish that my first baby was a boy so that they wouldn’t go extinct.

Negative Subtracting Problems

This story is told in letters, for it is in letters that it happened.

I tell you what I think was happening right before the letters began:

One morning, in the world of Backwards Math (a small land inside a bigger land called MathLand), a little number named -1 + – 30= -31 went to check his mailbox and found a letter. That letter begins our story of letters.

Dear -1 + -30 = -31,

-70 – -40 = ?  needs you to help find her answer!!!

Please help!!!

-40 ÷ -20 = 2

Dear -40 ÷ -20 = 2,

Tell -70 – -40 = ? to shorten -40 to -39, then she’ll get -31,

then subtract -1 and there’s her answer.

-1 + -30 = -31

Dear  -1 + -30 = -31,

-70 – -40 = -30 found her answer, thanks to you.

She doesn’t know how she’ll ever be able to repay you,

-1 + -30 = -31.

-40 ÷ -20 = 2

Dear  -40 ÷ -20 = 2,

No prob. I loved helping her.

-1 + -30 = -31

I think that -1 + -30 = -31 came to the level of being called -31 soon after. (Because of how well he handled the problem.)

And so this story of  letters is told. I hope that soon I’ll be able to tell you another.

Math games for learning Times

If your child is having problems learning multiplication, then the best way to teach them is to make it fun and to help them solve the ones they have trouble with. There’s a website you can go to that makes it fun. You still need to help them with the harder ones, and I’d be careful on the games you start them on, so that you can change the level if you need to, but it’s still very fun.

Click here to go to Interactive Games and get your kids in the times.

I liked it a ton, but stick to page 1, because the games on the other pages take you to different websites. (Though I guess you might like them, how should I know? We tried one, and it wasn’t as good, because you have to go real fast, and I don’t like games that are timed.) Hope you like it, too!
